Pupils to consider what they would be like as a Super Hero, design their costume / gadgets etc. Consider who their arch enemy would be, and produce a comic strip adventure.

How to complete a simple circuit with conductive sewing thread, using textile components as the switch - to light an led.
Can be used for KS3 / 4.
Once the basic skill has been mastered - think of other components that can be used to complete the circuit and manage the energy flow.

Introduction to the subject of fibre types and the benefits of blending fibres. Brief outline of fibres to yarn to fabric.
Usefull as a revision tool for the exam - powerpoint has blank slides that can be printed out for the students to note take on, during the presentation.
Fabric samples of the fibre types would be a usefull addition during this presentation to enable pupils to be tactile with the fibre types.
A booklet of inspiration images and worksheets to allow the pupil to start thinking about the theme, and develop design ideas, including scaffolding for the annotation.
This is a format I have used for many years with success, as it is supportive for all pupils as a starting point to begin generating their ideas. It allows them to practise drawing the ideas and developing them through to a fully considered final design.
They can think about textile decorative hand techniques and how they could be produced in industry.
If you download please leave feedback, and .... Good Luck with the exam. :-)
To help pupils begin to create a design solution for the exam; on the Fairground Theme. I have produced a work book and some starting inspiration images.I have printed these as two booklets to give the pupils to work from; alternatively you could print and laminate the images at A3 size to make a class resource / or just show as the power point.\n\nIf you look or download, would you please be kind enough to leave a comment or a development suggestion. I am always happy to share my resources, and feel motivated to share more when comments are posted as a thank you.
Powerpoint slides for quick starter activities - to allow pupils to review prior learning before a revision lesson.
Slides in the style of Mike Gershon's starter / plenary activities.
Slides cover plain, twill, satin weave, screen / rotary / sublimation printing, batik & block printing. Some List-O-Mania titles you could add a countdown clock to the slides or some 'hint' pictures to help some pupils get started.
Cut out and laminate the dominoes. A good way to revise the pattern markings, or introduce the topic. A small selection of dominoes, that work best in small groups at the table.
Introductory powerpoint with pupil workbook, to introduce the exam design question theme, Worldwide Transport / Educational product for a child.
Allowing the pupils to record their first thoughts, and enable them to begin sketching their first design ideas through to a final design for the exam.

Step by Step photo instructions for pupils to follow to make a reversible bucket hat, in the Lesson Powerpoint.
A skills building make for KS3 - KS4 - option to tye dye fabric to make the hat from [ slides 25-30 cover this in the lesson powerpoint.] Or it could be a recycling make using found fabrics; medium weight cottons will give the best finished result. The make links other parts of the specification together,;woven fabric construction, natural fibres and their properties, dye techniques, with joining and making.
Keywords highlighted in the step of making.
Glossary worksheets to develop Keyword attainment and to allow pupils to demonstrate their knowledge; AFL for teacher to assess individuals understanding. I have used these as starter activities to recall learning in the previous lesson. You could select the words they complete, or let them have free choice.
Skills building - Bucket Hat construction record, pupils to complete after each practical lesson to rag rate their outcome. Creating a step-by-step production record to support NEA KS4 work, where they state the steps of making and reflect on the techniques they could improve. This will help focus them on Quality Control outcomes in this and future makes.
Summative Assessment Sheet - linked to GCSE 1-9 making grade criteria. This could be self / peer / teacher assessment. Learning Objectives of techniques are listed, I use this to highlight areas not achieved so the pupil can see in ‘pupil speak’ what they could do to further develop their work.
The supporting worksheets are proven in my past pupils NEA to develop their skills to be able to be successful. The scaffolding of the sheets allows pupil to record their written content without it feeling like an onerous written task.
